I'm very staunchly pro-choice, and it's a major voting issue for me. I don't think that anyone has the right to force a woman to continue an unwanted pregnancy, that's like some sick incubation slavery. I think a large section of the anti-choice movement just want to punish women for enjoying sex (especially since a growing number of anti-choicers are pushing for legislation banning common birth control). If anti-choicers really cared about the fetus, and weren't just punishing women for enjoying sex, they would be advocating birth control and proper sex education to eradicate the need for abortion.
I don't identify as democrat nor republican, as I am socially liberal and economically conservative. If asked my political leanings, I usually just say i'm libertarian. I don't believe the government should have as much control over our lives as they have. I believe the government should be more hands-off, and focus on protecting us from internal and external threats instead of attempting to legislate morality.
I also don't believe the government has the right to take my money to fund programs that i don't use nor believe in. I believe we should have a consumption based tax, and stop rewarding people on welfare for making bad life decisions and allowing them to leech off the government. I work hard for my money, and i don't like the thought of supporting people that could work, but prefer to pop out dozens of children to get more benefits. I wouldn't mind if these people actually took the time to attempt to better society, but a lot of the time they don't, and i don't see having baby after baby as bettering society. It's glutting the education system so all of the children are getting subpar educations, and it's taking money away from people who have actually given something to society (ie. the elderly) that can no longer work and need assistence.
So I'm a bit of a social darwinist. It doesn't make me a bad person.
If you had to pigeon-hole me, I'm pro gun control, anti war, pro social security reform (not privatization), pro choice, pro welfare reform, pro tax reform, anti bush, pro canada.
Pro Canada? For those of you not in the know, I've almost completely given up on this country (not because of the current administration, although that is part of it) and am making plans to relocate to the land of polar bears, igloos, and cute boys. I'm of a firm belief that if you don't agree with a goverment, move someplace with a government you do. Unless I get a hellacious job offer here, I'm doing just that. Canada seems slightly less full of bullshit than the US.
